An authorization hold is a temporary hold put on funds, pending authorization. When you make a transaction with a credit or debit card, the merchant contacts the cardholder’s issuing bank and requests authorization, to ensure they actually get paid. While the authorization is pending, the bank reserves the amount requested.
- If you do not complete the verification process, or if your transaction was declined, your payment is automatically canceled and the amount will be released by your bank once the authorization holding period is over. This can take up to 3 business days and is not something Simplex has any control over.
